WORDS FROM OUR SCHOLARS

Jasmine Jackson

“I’m glad that the Foundation saw the brightness of me and knew that I wanted to do well in school. Having the scholarship helped me pay to go to school, which was one of my biggest barriers. My mother took out most of the loans for me to go, and I tried my best to get as many scholarships as I could so that she didn’t have to continue building on her debt for me. I thoroughly believe that if I did not have the scholarship, I might not have been able to continue to get through school because of how expensive it was.”

Sadique Attah

“The Ralph W. Turner Scholarship Award was instrumental in helping me cover tuition costs, especially since my family was facing financial challenges at the time. Obtaining my degree has allowed me to shift my focus toward preparing for and eventually passing the actuarial exams, with the goal of becoming a professional actuary.”

Ayanna Simon

“I was happy to learn that I was a recipient of the Ralph W. Turner Annual Scholarship. I am a Biology Major who plans to study and further my education to become a Pediatrician. By awarding me the Ralph W. Turner Annual Scholarship, I will be able to focus on my education and put all my energy into doing well in my classes..”

Identifying
the problem
“African-American and Latino workers also now represent 29 percent of the general workforce population (up from about 24 percent in 2001)…But just 16 percent of the advanced manufacturing workforce, 15 percent of the computing workforce, and 12 percent of the engineering workforce.”

(US News, 2015)

“Minority women participation in STEM at the collegiate level: Engineering, 3.1%; Physical Sciences, 6.5%, Mathematics, 5.4%, Computer Science, 4.8%.”
